What a difference a year makes…
This time last year the owners of Confederate Motorcycles were enjoying life and a successful business in New Orleans, LA. N.B. Click here to view a previous entry on the Crescent City after a visit, here for shortly after the events of late August and early September. The devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina led to the company to announce plans to relocate to the Magic City in December, 2005. One sees signs of their rebirth while driving by their soon to be open offices along 5th Avenue South, (across from WorkPlay and the Liv on Fifth development currently under construction), complete with their new logo. It appears that the rebirth will also take place on their website. We’ll get a chance to watch the success of their physical rebirth starting August 29th. And we get to constantly watch the rebirth of our own city with events like last night’s Artwalk Preamble. Stay tuned for more.
Cheers.

Last night hundreds braved the bad weather in Birmingham’s City Center to take part in something that has become a local tradition, the Artwalk Preamble. We mentioned it earlier this week and it was a lot of fun. The event serves as the major fund raiser for the annual Artwalk Festival, being held September 8 & 9. It reminded me of the fun times in Savannah hanging out with my fellow art students and had me asking that question I tend to ask about this time every year, “Why did I stop doing art?”

The event included both a silent and live auction as well as food from Café Dupont, John’s City Diner and The Grape. It provides a look into our local art scene, allowing us to see just how diverse and incredible it is. It also gives you a sneak preview of what items you may want to buy during the event. Of course we took the some pictures to post and you can view them by clicking here. We also could not resist bidding on a new piece of art for the loft. The scary thing is that we have a lot of pieces, some that I’ve owned since my early years in Savannah, that have not been framed as of yet. It looked like a great time was had by all. We’ll have some more about the festival as it draws near. Click here to view some images from last night’s event.
Enjoy the day,
Cheers.
