Last night hundreds braved the bad weather in Birmingham’s City Center to take part in something that has become a local tradition, the Artwalk Preamble. We mentioned it earlier this week and it was a lot of fun. The event serves as the major fund raiser for the annual Artwalk Festival, being held September 8 & 9. It reminded me of the fun times in Savannah hanging out with my fellow art students and had me asking that question I tend to ask about this time every year, “Why did I stop doing art?”
The event included both a silent and live auction as well as food from Café Dupont, John’s City Diner and The Grape. It provides a look into our local art scene, allowing us to see just how diverse and incredible it is. It also gives you a sneak preview of what items you may want to buy during the event. Of course we took the some pictures to post and you can view them by clicking here. We also could not resist bidding on a new piece of art for the loft. The scary thing is that we have a lot of pieces, some that I’ve owned since my early years in Savannah, that have not been framed as of yet. It looked like a great time was had by all. We’ll have some more about the festival as it draws near. Click here to view some images from last night’s event.
Enjoy the day,
Cheers.

One of my favorite restaurants in town is called Little Savannah. It’s in Forest Park near Naked Art Gallery. It’s pricey and very small, but oh, so good. They have a few paintings of Savannah inside, you should check it out if you get the chance.
Did you get that piece of art you bid on?
Comment by SJ August 11, 2006 @ 7:58 amI tried them a few times when they were open for lunch. They are great. Named the restaurant for their daughter and for the city.
I did get the artwork. We’re trying to figure out where it’s going to go. Probably in the hallway as we walk into the loft.
Comment by dresramblings August 11, 2006 @ 8:01 amWhy *did* you stop doing art? And more important–why don’t you start doing it again right now? (I sort of buried my artistic side for several years, but then it launched a surprise attack. It’s never too late to get back into art, and you never know where it might lead.) What sort of art did you do?
Thanks for this post and photos (even though I want to hide from the pictures of myself!). It was a great party–I’d say the best Preamble Artwalk has done.
Comment by cbuchanan August 11, 2006 @ 11:55 amCharles – our picture is much better of you than of me… I look like a deer in headlights… hopefully I didn’t come across that way in person!! Had a great time last night, and have enjoyed working with you… Andre-thanks for the posts and support of Artwalk. Your help in getting the word out, as well as actually buying art in our fair city, is much appreciated!
