Dre\’s Ramblings

Random Shots: A slow return to normal with music and visioning

I’m still playing catch up with work and health issues, resulting in not being comfortable with either one right now. Hopefully it’ll get better soon.

Let’s look at the interesting stuff getting ready to happen this week. The image above, ticket booths sitting in front of our downtown Wachovia Motor Bank (don’t ask) is a sure sign that the city center is about to be invaded by thousands of music lovers for City Stages. Click here to view the web site (and listen to podcasts from some of the performers). You may also want to check out the Birmingham Jaycees tents at the festival. I will most likely not be working them due to the medical stuff. I’ll hopefully see those of you in town this weekend.

Another interesting activity for those that may be interested is A City of Neighborhoods. This three-day workshop beginning this Thursday is being put on by my office (Main Street Birmingham), Design Alabama, our regional planning commission and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum (out of New York City). Click here to view a PDF explaining the workshop and to register. The community being focused on during the workshop is Avondale. I’ll try to get some images of the area up later on this week. Due to the late date, you may wish to contact Gina Clifford at the number or e-mail address located on page one. This is a great way to see how design influences a community’s quality of life, among other things.

Both of these events shine the spotlight on some great things that can happen and are happening in the Magic City.

I’m hoping to put up some of the fun images from the trip later on today on the Smugmug site. If you have not already, you may want to read Friday’s post and view the images I have already posted from the trip. They are quite interesting to say the least.

Enjoy your Monday.

Cheers.
